Introduction
"The city of Salisbury is in transition. In 2010 Salisbury has
had its share of successes, while beginning to take a serious look
at long standing issues facing the community. Examples of the
city’s progressive approach to moving forward paying dividends
include: Focusing on the health of the river through the Wicomico
River Project, large gains in the Salisbury Zoo capital campaign,
$327K for our Salisbury Safe Streets Coalition, success in our
Downtown 3rd Friday events, and our
marina at full service. Our efforts have paid off as Salisbury
has been named an All-America City 2010 by the National Civic
League. City government works hard every day to make Salisbury a
great place to live, work, and play.

The Eastern Shore. The Delmarva
Peninsula. Chesapeake Country. By any name, it is a distinctive
geographical area blessed by nature's bounties.
Salisbury and Wicomico County are located
in the center of the Delmarva Peninsula, the strip of land which
includes Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland and the
Eastern Shore of Virginia. The peninsula is bordered by the
Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. With expanses of farmland
threaded by scenic rivers and creeks, the region is bound both to
sea and land.
Watermen and farmers have always
comprised a large percentage of the peninsula's population. While
their numbers have decreased with a growth in population and
expansion of other businesses, they remain a vital element today.
As the business, industrial, cultural and
service center of the region, Salisbury and Wicomico County
have fostered the growth of a well-balanced economic base where new
and varied business thrives within the context of the area's
natural beauty.
