The Medical Center’s Peninsula Heart Center is one of only eight open heart centers in Maryland and its Robert T. Adkins, M.D. Emergency/Trauma Center is the designated Trauma Center for the region by the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services System.

Family Practice
Salisbury is the regional hub for a network of skilled internists, general or family practitioners, and pediatricians. In addition to its Primary Care Network, Peninsula Regional Medical Center offers a Physician Referral Service at 410-543-7090. The service provides information on the specialties of area physicians plus information on which practices are accepting new patients and which insurance programs they accept.

Peninsula Health Group of Salisbury:
The Main Street MedCenter-Peninsula Industrial Medical Center provides an affordable alternative to a hospital emergency room on a walk-in basis.

  • A medical director and two physician's assistants treat a wide variety of injuries and illnesses.
  • MedCenter provides screening that meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards by medical personnel who are board-certified and licensed.
    • On-site x-ray 
    • A draw station for outpatient lab work
    • Drug and alcohol screening

The Peninsula Surgery Center performs hundreds of outpatient procedures annually. The Salisbury Diagnostic Breast Center is a full-service breast center with mammography, breast sonography, diagnosis, and consultation.

Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care
HEALTHSOUTH Chesapeake Rehabilitation Hospital is a 44-bed comprehensive inpatient hospital providing state-of-art care for victims of strokes, traumatic brain, head and spinal injuries, amputations, nervous system disorders, and other diseases. They can be reached at 410-546-4600. it is the only facility of its kind on the Eastern Shore and largest in the country. HEALTHSOUTH Chesapeake Rehabilitation Hospital offers the following services:

  • Orthopedic and pulmonary rehabilitation and therapy
  • Warm-water aquatics

  • Specialized programs such as driver's evaluation and retraining

The Salisbury Center/Genesis Elder Care is one of the area's most highly regarded senior citizen residence facilities. 

  • Maryland's third largest nursing home with 370 beds
  • Two rehabilitation service units
  • Functional Evaluation and Treatment Unit is designed to prevent premature nursing home placement and fosters a resident's return to a less restrictive life
  • Has returned nearly 50% those treated to their homes

  • Operates the largest hemodialysis or kidney dialysis unit on the Eastern Shore

The Community Cancer Support Center  
The Wellness Community Delmarva is a newly established support group for
victims of cancer and their families.  It offers, free of charge, a growing

Mental Health Care and Developmental Disabilities
A full range of mental health services are available in Salisbury

  • Peninsula Regional Medical Center provides both inpatient and outpatient adult mental health and substance abuse services
  • Wicomico County Health Department provides counseling and programs for supported independent living in the community
  • The Holly Center offers education and health care services for developmentally disabled individuals
    • Their mission is to foster independence in those they serve
    • Use an experienced professional staff working as a team to

      • Devise a plan for living up to their full potential
    • They have 170 resident clients, support day services, and monitor developmentally disabled individuals living relatively independent lives within the community.
